Flower Press Creative Studio is a website design and development studio that’s been around since 2001. In that time we’ve helped hundreds of startups and teams build great products. Our customer-centered design process helps businesses create products that resonate with end-users and help improve lives.
Our mission is to solve problems. We design for people.
From tiny startups with a single founder, to large organizations with embedded engineering teams, we treat our clients as partners. We work together to design and test solutions, build complex user-interfaces or complete end-to-end products. Our distributed team model extends our reach.
Scutwork.com was founded in 1999 to offer insider-reviews of medical residency programs across the country. Student Doctor Network acquired Scutwork in 2015 with the intention of expanding the resource and making it available to SDN members. Student Doctor Network represents the largest online medical of students and doctors with over 16 million page views per month.
SDN engaged Flower Press Creative Studio, LLC to perform an audit of Scutwork.com and conduct an overhaul of the design and feature set. We started by streamlining the information architecture, simplifying the navigation and removing un-used or dated features. We created black and white wireframes to map out updated residency program comparison features including side-by-side comparisons, improved residency detail pages, featured programs with user ratings and review quotes, improved visibility by specialty, popularity and recency. Once wireframes were completed we conducted user testing and iterated to make further adjustments.
Visual designs for Scutwork represent a departure from core SDN properties. We implemented a modern, fully-responsive, stacked layout with full-screen images, and rotating pull-quotes. Large tables of data are converted to easy-to-browse stacked data on mobile with filters and sort functions. The new Scutwork tool includes forum feeds from SDN’s community for each related practice area. Scutwork is also usable with SDN’s SSO (single sign on) so SDN users can access the system with their primary SDN login. These features provide additional value for Scutwork users and SDN users alike. Flower Press Creative Studio, LLC partnered with SDN’s engineering agency Saritasa to execute this build using custom PHP and MySQL. Flower Press provided design, user testing, product direction and UI engineering while working with the client and Saritasa team on final execution.
